According to Captain Temo Verboonen, Secuestro De Amor, the fishing has been very good this week and the only downside is the lack of anglers. He reports a good ROOSTERFISH bite and a big school of NEEDLEFISH passing through that cut a lot of poppers and terrorized the bait schools. He reported 4 ROOSTERFISH, 2 SAILFISH and 5 JACK CREVALLE for the Secuestro de Amor.
Dos Hermanos II reported 2 SAILFISH and the Dos Hermanos
I reported 13 ROOSTERFISH and 4 JACK CREVALLE. All
reporting for single fishing days.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Mostly cloudy, temps from
73 nights to 90 daytime highs, PM and night rains
Sea Conditions: Mostly
calm, temps at 87 throughout the area, clean & blue from 2 miles out of the harbor.
Sea Surface Temp: 29-30°C
Bait Supply: Good
After a sluggish start to the week, the offshore SAILFISH bite increased dramatically. Our captains are reporting 3 - 4 SAILFISH per day per boat and the warm blue water is within 1 mile of shore.
The real action continues to be the wide open inshore ROOSTERFISH bite south of Zihuatanejo Bay near San Valentín.
Returning New Jersey anglers Ron & Jeff
Reinhardt fishing 3 days aboard the Dos Hermanos 1 with Captain
Adolfo landed 23 ROOSTERFISH in the 15 - 50 lb class as well as
2 large YELLOWTAIL JACKS. On day number 1 Jeff’s third
cast using a Yozuri Pink and Yellow Surfacxe Cruiser, was engulfed by
a monster ROOSTER. After nearly an hour the fish was landed and
scaled 105.6 lbs. ( 48 kilos ) The fish was caught using a Shimano Stratic
6000 reel and Power Pro 30 lb test line. The fish measured 64” long
with a girth of 36”.
Congratulations on a very unique catch!
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Overcast
mornings with brief rain at night.
Sea Conditions: Calm in the morning
but moderate with the afternoon winds.
Sea Surface Temp: 29-30°C
Bait Supply: Good
While the full moon had a definite negative effect on the offshore bite, the inshore fishery exploded into some indescribable ROOSTERFISH action.
Captain Adolfo reported day long action along the south beaches nearly San Valentín. In 4 days Captain Adolfo reported raising 96 ROOSTERFISH to the fly landing 8.
Captain Temo using conventional gear recorded a 7 ROOSTERFISH day, and Captain Cheva also using conventional gear reported an 8 ROOSTERFISH day along with several YELLOWTAIL JACKS. The ROOSTERFISH are averaging 30 lbs and are really aggressive to a top water pencil popper.
The SAILFISH bite was sluggish but some nice sized DORADO were reported in the weekly catch report.
Because of the full moon our captains
reported a good bite early and late but the late morning and middle part
of the day was void of any action. The blue water is
still inside the bay.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Mild temps, humid, little wind
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 29°C
Bait Supply: Good
Near perfect inshore and offshore conditions were the order of the day in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo last week.
Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook led the way as he reported landing 10 YELLOWFIN TUNA for angler Mr. Peltier. Mr. Thein, also fishing aboard the Bloody Hook, landed 1 SAILFISH, 1 DORADO and lost 2 MARLIN in one offshore day.
First time visitor to Ixtapa Mr. Corey Bear landed 2 SAILFISH in 1 day with Captain Chiro, who finished the week with another 2 SAILFISH-1 DORADO day.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 3 ROOSTERFISH and 1 (15 lb) BIGEYE JACK in 1 inshore day, and 2 YELLOWFIN TUNA and 3 SAILFISH in 2 offshore trips.
Captain Adolfo fished inshore and reported 15 YELLOWTAIL JACKS and 11 ROOSTERFISH along with some good light tackle action on BONITOS.
Captain Chico on the Llamarada landed the largest fish of the week: a 300-lb BLUE MARLIN.
The blue water is virtually in the
bay at this time and BILLFISH conditions could not be better.
We still have some excellent availability in the upcoming months.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Sunny days, a hint of humidity, light sprinkle
at week's end
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 29°C
Bait Supply: Excellent
Windy conditions, cold water coupled with very light angling activity made for a short fishing report last week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Our captain did report some fair to better-than-average SAILFISH activity along with some MARLIN as well. The YELLOWFIN TUNA are reported to be beyond the 50-mile mark.
Inshore the action is mixed with CHULAS, SPANISH MACKEREL and some ROOSTERFISH and JACKS in the mix.
First-time visitor to I/Z , Mr. Ross, had an action-packed inshore day aboard the Dos Hermanos 1 landing 1 nice ROOSTERFISH and losing 2 others, along with 5 SPANISH MACKEREL, 4 YELLOWTAIL JACKS, 2 POMPANO and numerous BONITOS. On his second day Mr. Ross decided to go offshore with Captain Adolfo, and after landing 1 SAILFISH just after leaving Zihuatanejo Bay, hooked a 500-lb BLUE MARLIN on 20-lb test. The battle started at 8:40 a.m. and lasted to 5: 40 p.m. It was an exceptional catch on 20-lb test!
We still have very good dates available for the Summer
Roosterfish Season.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Windy, one night of brief
light rain
Sea Conditions: Moderate to Rough
Sea Surface Temp: 26°C
Bait Supply: Good
The oncoming moon brought with it some super MARLIN fishing as our captains reported many strikes just 8-10 miles offshore. Even with light angling pressure, an average of 5-6 MARLIN were caught each day last week.
Just a bit farther out, the SAILFISH bite remains respectable as Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook reported 7 SAILFISH for 3 offshore days. Captain Chiro also reported 4 YELLOWTAIL JACKS, Several nice CHULAS and a mixed bag of BONITO for 1 inshore day.
Captain Adolfo also
reported the start of the ROOSTERFISH bite as he landed 4-5
each day. The fish were in the 20-25 lb range. There was also a noticeable
increase in the number of baitfish in the area which is a sure sign that
the inshore fishing will pick up in the weeks ahead.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Weather: Mild temps, mostly clear sunny days, but the first rain
of the season fell last Monday evening.
Sea Conditions: Calm to Moderate
Sea Surface Temp: 27°C
Bait Supply: Excellent
Very light angling activity coupled with changing fishing conditions made for a difficult picture in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo last week. Our captains reported that the blue water made wide movements last week and water temps continue to be below normal as several pods of KILLER WHALES were spotted just outside the bay.
Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook posted a 7-SAILFISH day and ended the week with14 SAILFISH and 1 BLUE MARLIN released for 4 days of offshore fishing as well as some very good inshore action on BONITO and AMBERJACKS.
Captain Rafa on the Vamonos 2 reported 7 SAILFISH for 2 days offshore.
Captain Adolfo reported 7 ROOSTERFISH to 25 lbs in two inshore days while Captain Cheva reported 6 SAILFISH in 2 offshore days.
Our captains also reported a 450 lb BLACK MARLIN and several smaller BLUE MARLINS for the week.
Summertime has historically
been the very best time for wide open ROOSTERFISH action. We still
have available dates and skippers.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Sunny, mild
temps
Sea Conditons: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 26-27°C
Bait Supply: Good
Changeable conditions still exist in Ixtapa-Zihautanejo as the spring turnover to warmer water conditions just does not want to set up. This has resulted in inconsistent days with some days providing good action while the very next day is void of any. It remains a puzzling situation. On the better days our captains are reporting 2 - 4 shots at SAILFISH with some DORADO mixed in as well.
Inshore, Captain Adolfo reports wide open action on big SPANISH MACKEREL up at Las Saladitas. Good YELLOWTAIL JACK and small ROOSTERFISH have also been present.
Very few MARLIN and no YELLOWFIN TUNA were reported last week.
Tomorrow starts the Annual Billfish Tournament, and with
an expected field of 100+ boats we should get a good idea of the the
bite when the tournament ends on Sunday.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Sunny most days with a bit of clouds
starting to show up.
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 26-27°C
Bait Supply: Good
Very changeable conditions were the order of the day last week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Those changing conditions brought with them inconsistent action as one day would find large concentrations of SAILFISH and then the next they would be gone.
Best single day was turned in by returning New Jersey angler Mr. Herb Houghton who landed 4 SAILFISH and lost 2 others while fishing with Captain Adolfo on the Dos Hermanos 1.
Not to be outdone, Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook also posted a 4-SAILFISH day while fishing with angler Mr. Shtob. Captain Chiro also reported 3 other SAILFISH for three offshore days and a mixed bag of YELLOWTAIL JACKS, AMBERJACKS, SPANISH MACKEREL and CHULAS for 2 inshore days.
Captain Omero also fishing 1 inshore day reported 4 big SPANISH MACKEREL, 1 YELLOWTAIL JACK and a handful of BONITOS.
The inshore fishing was severely affected by high tides and large swells.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 3 SAILFISH in 2 offshore days while Captain Rafa on the Vamonos 1 led angler Mr. White to a beautiful 40 lb BULL DORADO.
The blue water has moved to beyond the 15-mile mark with most of the good SAILFISH activity occurring in the green water between 8 and 15 miles. There is also another hot bite at the 1000 fathom curve (25 miles offshore).
No MARLIN or TUNA activity
was reported last week.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Sunny temps in the
high 80's
Sea Conditions: Moderate
Sea Surface Temp: 26-27°C
Bait Supply: Fair
The waters continue to warm in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo but the blue water moved to beyond the 20-mile mark. The bite was on-again / off-again all week long.
Top performance was turned in by Captains Cheva and Adolfo on the Dos Hermanos 1 & 2 who, while on a long day for tuna with the Hanley group, landed 10 SAILFISH between the two boats and reported raising several more SAILS. The group was fishing at the 40-mile mark in search of TUNA when they ran into the aggressive pack of SAILFISH.
Although our captains reported raising several SAILFISH per day, they were very reluctant to take the baits. Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook reported a single SAILFISH day as did Captain José on the La Bamba.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 2 SAILFISH and 1 DORADO for 2 days of offshore fishing.
Inshore the YELLOWTAIL JACKS went crazy up at Las Saladitas
as our captains reported action all day long. Several ROOSTERFISH were
also reported but they were on the small side. Although this is prime
MARLIN season very few MARLIN were reported last week.
The YELLOWFIN TUNA were reported beyond the 60-mile mark.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Weather: Cool mornings followed by exceptional days!
Sea Conditions: Calm to
Moderate
Sea Surface Temp: 27°C
Bait Supply: Good
Dramatically improved sea conditions along with a slight warming of the ocean temperatures brought in a more consistent offshore bite.
Leading the way once again was Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook reporting a 300 lb BLACK MARLIN along with 16 SAILFISH and 1 monster DORADO for 5 days offshore.
Captain Adolfo on the Dos Hermanos 1 reported 2 SAILFISH , 8 big SPANISH MACKEREL and a handful of BONITOS in 2 days of fishing.
Partner Captain Cheva on the Dos Hermanos 2 reported 2 BLUE MARLIN in the 150 - 160 lb range along with 3 SAILFISH.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 3 SAILFISH and 1 DORADO in 3 offshore days.
The blue water has moved to
within the 5-mile mark and most of the better action is occurring just
beyond that mark. Our captains are reporting that the fish are much more
aggressive as the ocean temperatures become more favorable.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Weather: Sunny, mild temps
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 27°C
Bait Supply: Good
Cold green water still persists in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area. This band of water extends to over the 20-mile mark and has made the fishing both inshore and offshore difficult. Our captains are reporting some SAILFISH in various bands of green water, but their numbers much like their willingness to bite is quite slim.
Captain Chiro aboard the Bloody Hook reported 4 SAILFISH and a single 150 lb BLACK MARLIN for 4 days of fishing.
Captain Javier aboard the Marlin Azul reported 5 YELLOWTAIL JACKS for 1 day.
Captain José aboard the La Bamba scored 1 SAILFISH a 3 JACKS in one offshore day.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro also had a 1-SAILFISH day as did Captain Omero of the Duquesa.
Inshore the activity is very slow for all species.
Our captains also reported seeing good numbers of YELLOWFIN
TUNA beyond
the 25-mile mark. April has historically been a very good month for both
MARLIN and YELLOWFIN TUNA. Some prime dates and excellent captains
are still available.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Cool mornings, breezy sunny days.
Sea
Conditions: Calm to Moderate with upwelling currents along parts
of the coastline.
Sea Surface Temp: 26-27°C
Bait Supply: Fair
Cooler water temp continues to surround the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area. Our captains are reporting some YELLOWFIN TUNA action at the 30-mile mark. Most of the fish are between 20 - 30 lbs with a few going as high as 80 lbs. A few MARLIN were also reported this week with the largest scaling in at close to 400 lbs.
The inshore bite continues
to be strong with good action on YELLOWTAIL JACKS and some very
nice sized SPANISH MACKEREL. As an added bonus, the CHULA bite
has gotten much better. Very light angling pressue was reported.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Cool mornings
Sea Conditions: High tides with large
swells
Sea Surface Temp: 26°C
Bait Supply: Good.
Offshore continues to be hit and miss as the blue water has moved beyond the 25-mile mark. As a real oddity, our captains are reporting good numbers of 30 - 40 lb DORADO at the 15-mile mark in the cold green water. The SAILFISH activity has all but shut down since the arrival of the cooler water temps.
Hot captain for last week was Chiro on the Bloody Hook. Captain Chiro reported 11 nice DORADOS in 3 offshore days. Fishing with Captain Chiro was returning angler Mr. Okonsky who landed the largest fish of the week: an estimated 500 lb BLACK MARLIN.
Inshore, Captain Adolfo reported very good action
on BONITOS, CHULAS, YELLOWTAIL JACKS and an occasional
small ROOSTERFISH. The best area is north to Las Saladitas when
sea conditions permit. MEGA bait lures and top water pencil poppers continue
to be the most productive method of inshore fishing.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Weather: Cool mornings turning into beautiful days.
Sea Conditions: Calm to Moderate
Sea Surface Temp: 26°C
Bait Supply: Good
Cold green water continues to put a damper on the fishing in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The offshore fishing has been hit and miss with BILLFISH counts falling way off.
Captain José on the La Bamba reported a 2-DORADO day while the Vamonos 2 reported 1 SAILFISH and 3 DORADO in three offshore days.
Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook, after coming off a respectable week posting 7 SAILFISH and 8 DORADO, reported very slow action as far south as Puerto Vicente Guerrero where he landed a single DORADO in 1 offshore day.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 1 SAILFISH, 5 SPANISH MACKEREL, 5 YELLOWTAIL JACKS and several BONITO in 5 days.
Captain Adolfo on the Dos Hermanos turned his attention to inshore, finding good numbers of small (10 - 15 lb) ROOSTERFISH north to Saladitas. The fish were aggressively taking MEGABAIT jigs. Captain Adolfo's single best day was a 14 count on ROOSTERFISH.
There also continues to be some CHULAS around the offshore rock, which is a sure sign that the waters continues to cool down.
Several BLUE MARLIN were
reported last week but anglers are searching long distance and putting
in long hours to find several fish. No reports of the big YELLOWFIN
TUNA as
of this date.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Cool mornings followed by beautiful
days
Sea Conditions: Calm all week until today when seas turned somewhat
rough
Sea Surface Temp: 26°C
Bait Supply: Fair
With dramatic daily shifts in water temperatures and water conditions last week appears to be the beginning of the winter turnover. The blue water has moved out to the 25-30 mile mark and our captains are reporting a very cold (76 - 78°F) inshore water temperature. By week’s end the cold inshore water started the beginning of a red tide, which seriously and negatively impacted the inshore fishing conditions.
Captain Adolfo Espinosa on the Dos Hermanos 1 fishing 2 days inshore reported 2 small ROOSTERFISH.
Captain Cheva on the Dos Hermanos 2 reported a single DORADO for 3 offshore days.
Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported raising 8 SAILFISH and 1 DORADO in 7 offshore day, landing 2 of the SAILFISH on a fly.
Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook took top honors for the week scoring 9 SAILFISH, 1 DORADO, 2 CHULAS, 1 SPANISH MACKEREL and 1 BIG EYE JACK in 7 days.
Our captains have also reported seeing pods
of porpoises and YELLOWFIN
TUNA, which were unwilling to bite. As water temps continue to
drop we should start to see more and more TUNA along with the
arrival of both BLUE and BLACK MARLIN. We still have
some very good dates available for March and April.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
Weather: Cool mornings followed by beautiful days w/temp's in the
high 80’s (F)
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 25° C
Bait Supply: Good
The offshore action cooled a bit last week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo as the yearly turnover of water temperatures began to arrive. Our blue water moved out to the 25-mile mark and cooler green water covered the inshore areas. Still our captains reported good numbers of SAILFISH and DORADO.
Captain Miguel on the super panga Tijera recorded 6 SAILFISH, 2 DORADO and 1 SPANISH MACKEREL in 3 days with European angler Mr. Callico. Mr. Callico’s group also fished aboard the super panga Cesy landing 7 SAILFISH and 4 DORADO and the super panga Leydy landing 8 SAILFISH and 6 DORADO.
Captain Alberto on the Tarpon reported 3 SAILFISH in 3 days.
Returning French angler Mr. Jackie Montiel fishing aboard the super panga Sailfish landed 7 SAILFISH, 3 DORADO and 1 SHARK in 4 days of offshore fishing.
Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook recorded 6 SAILFISH and 2 DORADO in 5 offshore days.
Captain Edmundo Sanchez fishing out of Puerto Vicente Guerrero reported 1 SAILFISH and 2 DORADO in one offshore day. Many other billfish were seen but were reluctant to bite.
Captain Arturo Landa on the Janeth fished 1 inshore day landing 1 ROOSTERFISH, 15 YELLOWTAIL JACKS, 4 SPANISH MACKEREL and 1 POMPANO.
Our captains have also
reported many dolphins moving into the area and with them are the YELLOWFIN
TUNA. We
are seeing fish in the 20 - 30 lb class. No monsters as of this time.
A few MARLIN were also hooked and lost last week. Mach and April
have historically been our best months for good MARLIN and TUNA action.
Good dates are still available.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Weather: Sunny, light
winds and mild temps.
Sea Conditions: Calm
Sea Surface Temp: 26°
Bait Supply: Good
