One of the bummers for spectators as well as anyone trying to take photos or videos of the parade is that now there are literally thousands of parents that accompany their children the length of the parade. I had never seen such a thing in all my years until moving to Zihuatanejo 21 years ago. At first there were only a few dozen parents, then over the years it grew to a few hundred, but now the number is easily in the thousands, almost as many people as are in the parade, so that there is this moving mass of humanity along the sidewalks.
Added to the normal crowd of locals and visitors today were several hundred folks from the cruise ship "Oceana", Europeans who were very polite and delighted at all the cultural activity. Apparently no one on the ship or at the pier bothered to tell them that there was a parade or even what was being celebrated, but even as the sun grew hot after 3 hours of parade, they appeared in good spirits, though of course most stores were closed so there was no real economic benefit for most locals.
