It is hard to believe that this short… very short… sci-fi story is over 70 years old. And so prescient of today’s artificial intelligence.

Dwan Ev ceremoniously soldered the final connection with gold. The eyes of a dozen television cameras watched him and the subether bore throughout the universe a dozen pictures of what he was doing.
He straightened and nodded to Dwar Reyn, then moved to a position beside the switch that would complete the contact when he threw it.
The switch that would connect, all at once, all of the monster computing machines of all the populated planets in the universe -- ninety-six billion planets -- into the supercircuit that would connect them all into one supercalculator, one cybernetics machine that would combine all the knowledge of all the galaxies.
Dwar Reyn spoke briefly to the watching and listening trillions. Then after a moment's silence he said, "Now, Dwar Ev."
Dwar Ev threw the switch. There was a mighty hum, the surge of power from ninety-six billion planets. Lights flashed and quieted along the miles-long panel.
Dwar Ev stepped back and drew a deep breath. "The honor of asking the first question is yours, Dwar Reyn."
"Thank you," said Dwar Reyn. "It shall be a question which no single cybernetics machine has been able to answer."
He turned to face the machine. "Is there a God?"

The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of a single relay.
"Yes, now there is a God."
Sudden fear flashed on the face of Dwar Ev. He leaped to grab the switch.
A bolt of lightning from the cloudless sky struck him down and fused the switch shut.

Interesting. Yes, many writers from years ago were very omnipresent. It amazes me at how accurate they were in describing mankind's future follies.
The ending of your story is quite chilling, but, I'm afraid quite possibly realistic.
We are definitely in uncharted waters.

I don't think there was much fanfare about junior bankers in the financial services industry being displaced by AI combining balance sheets of different companies to obtain merger opportunities, synergies and, of course, commissions. Now we have Tilly Norwood, an AI 'actress', that is making people in LA nervous. Maybe the studios start with supporting roles and don't have to pay those people. Stunt doubles can go away too. Scripts are more or less recycled already albeit with various tweaks. It sounds like a bonanza for lawyers. If you can claim a melody was stolen from a song that is intellectual property, what if the AI looks like or has a voice that sounds like an actress?

Thanks Eric. I will read both. Quite nice of you to offer this. I consume every bit of Zihua info I can find, and there doesn't seem to be a lot or I just don't know where to look. Guess that could be considered good or bad depending on one's point of view. Somewhat undiscovered paradise still?

Another concern is that AI data centers use immense amounts of water.
Querètero is AI ground zero in Mexico. The extra water consumption by data centres is a big problem in Querétaro which last year endured the worst drought of a century, impacting crops and water supplies to some communities.
