Otro Día DeliZIHoso en la Costa Grande
We were fortunate to enjoy another cool night for sleeping followed by a stunningly beautiful day for enjoying being in Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa, Troncones and La Saladita. The few visitors here not staying in all-included hotels and who ventured out and about in Zihuatanejo got their money's worth today. Whether you went to the beach, shopping, sightseeing or dining, if you were in our region of the world you most likely enjoyed a stellar day! It never got hot, never rained, there are no crowds anywhere, and the clouds painted the skies beautifully. The only glitch remains the pier at Playa Linda which should never have been built there. Millions of pesos have disappeared over the years trying to make it usable, but it's in a terrible location at the mouth of an estuary and the breakwater wasn't even built correctly to protect it. The original pier at Playa Quieta should be rehabilitated.
The mayor's idea to "remodel" the entrance to Playa Las Manzanillas in front of the fugly skyscraper condo that allegedly belongs to her and her husband (and that looks like something out of a horror movie) which includes "remodeling" the ancient little graveyard there has been met with mostly criticism. As much for its dubious necessity as for profaning the cemetery with cement from her husband's business. I hope they listen to the public, including families with loved ones buried there, and that they decide against it instead of continuing to obliterate every vestige of old Zihuatanejo with their damned cement.
It continues to look like we could get another big swirly thing forming off the coast to the south of us in the Golfo de Tehuantepec by the end of next week. Yep. ANOTHER ONE! While folks were wondering if we were okay after the images of cars floating in flooded streets of Zihuatanejo made the news, the real news has been the damage in places like Tabasco, Veracruz, Hidalgo and Guanajuato where rivers overflowed, people had to be rescued, and there were around 30 deaths.
A big shout out to our friends who own and operate El Buen Sazón restaurant for another heavenly home-cooked meal this Saturday afternoon, just like my suegra used to make, in their beautiful and peaceful garden setting hidden from public view in one of the few remaining parts of old Zihuatanejo that still exists mostly unchanged. If you're looking for fancy anything, English-speaking staff or you need trained waiters and fu-fu wine, this ain't the place. This is a family-run restaurant where we eat local recipes, always served with delicious frijoles and hot tortillas that will burn your fingers. Our kinda place!
If you're looking for an affordable vacation rental with a great location, take a look at Casa Contenta at La Ceiba complex. A comfortable vacation lodging located a block from the beach in Colonia La Madera and near many excellent restaurants. Enjoy your vacation in this 2-bedroom condo with a spacious living/dining area and a balcony overlooking a garden and pool.

Arriba del canal La Boquita apenas se ve parte de un halo que rodeaba el sol al amanecer este sábado en Zihuatanejo.
