Amor por la ZIHesta
This jueves pozolero in Zihuatanejo began with mild temperatures and bright skies after a night of thunderstorms taunting us right in front of Zihuatanejo Bay without a drop of rain falling in El Centro. Made for a beautiful light show.
There were few visitors around today on the beach and along the downtown waterfront this evening. Sales remain slow. Things should pick up this weekend a little bit, but next weekend will be busy with events for Día de Muertos.

So many people from other places have moved here and brought their cultural baggage with them that local customs are suffering. Even such a favorite and well-known custom as the siesta seems to be taking a hit as less and less people practice or respect it. It used to be that between 2 and 5 EVERYTHING closed down for siesta and no one called or visited anyone during that time period when families were eating the main meal of the day at home and resting afterwards until the heat from the day had dissipated. Streets would be empty. No one would make noise. To this day, I am not available during siesta! Don't call, and don't stop by. This is the tradition everywhere along this coast. But too many people from cities seem to have abandoned it decades ago, and too many folks from other countries seem unwilling to adjust to or adopt to local hours and customs. ¡Viva la siesta!
