Dorado/sailfish fishing recommendations

Ramón Olea or José Vargas would be my first choices. Ramón has a small panga called "Oleaje", but I caught the biggest tuna I've ever seen in my life on it with him. José Vargas has a small cruiser called "La Bamba" with a bit more room, and he's also one of the best.

Thanks Rob. La Bamba is 450US / day which is too much for us. That is well over what it costs me to fish in Alaska. I am having trouble contacting the other person. Do you have an email?

I can only speak from personal experience and don't have the years of local knowledge provided by others. Tuesday I fished with one of Temo's boats (Macho Banana) and Captn. Margaro. A few years back I fished with one of Temo's other captains. Both were successful trips. Tuesday we landed a large sailfish and had the biggest dorado I have ever seen break the line on his second jump (at least 10 ft out of the water). It hit the line so hard we initially thought it was a marlin. A few years ago I specified that I wanted only dorado if possible and we loaded the box with several nice sized fish (nothing tournament worthy, just good filet and eat size).

Boat and equipment were adequate and clean.

I have fish with Temo for the last 20 years. How was a good time. Reasonably priced. There are choices of fishing insure or offshore depending on what fish you want to target.

Tempo is a longtime local and fished in the area his entire life.

He also has a restaurant where you could take your fish to be cooked that has a beautiful sunset.
