I'd almost forgotten that tourist season comes with a rise in the background noise level. Something I sure as hell haven't missed. This entire weekend the background noise levels were up, and I found myself having to turn up the volume on my computer and my TV, and using my excellent Soundcore earphones with noise cancellation more. Much of the noise is simply from all the cars and bars with their sound up full blast, but also the people who walk around carrying boomboxes. Happens every year. Some years are worse than others. The municipal government doesn't help: every event no matter how small the crowd they play disco music with sound systems more apt for a small arena than the 25 to 100 people who turn up at most of their events.

In the wee hours of this Monday morning it looked like we might get a rainstorm. There were storm clouds with thunder and lightning off the coast to our south, looking like they were coming right for us. Probably our last chance for rain until next May or June, but it petered out. Rained all down the coast and in the sierra, but not a drop in downtown Zihuatanejo. ¡Tamo' sala'o! Thunderheads could still be seen off the coast this evening, but rain chances remain 0%. Expect the weather to remain exactly the same for the rest of the week. The temperatures might drop a degree later in the week. Whoopee!

This Monday was a rough day in Michoacán. With the increased police and military presence, bad boys are being bad and blocking roads and highways with burning vehicles to frustrate attempts to capture their leaders. I'd hold off driving there for a few days until things calm down. The federal government is trying to prevent the "efecto cucaracha" where the bad boys simply scatter to neighboring states until the military and police return to their barracks.

Lots of our long-weekend visitors will be back in their homes this Tuesday, and a semblance of normalcy should return to the area. More extranjeros are here. It's good to see them continuing to arrive. Many local businesses are springing back to life after a long lull.

El patio en el ahora museo solía ser un jardín hasta la administración municipal pasada. Ahora está caliente durante el día por estar lleno de cemento, negando el propósito original de este patio que solía refrescar todas las oficinas cuando fue el Palacio Federal.
