Lupita and I want to extend our gratitude to Joaquín, his son Alex and the staff at La Porteña for our wonderful experience there yesterday for Día del Amor y La Amistad. Fearing a long line or not being able to get our favorite table, we showed up before they were officially opened and enjoyed a few relaxing refreshments while they readied the restaurant for business. Our fresh fish, salads, veggies and dessert of tiramisu were impeccable! They even played some romantic Vicente Fernández music at our request. And Lupita got to sing a song or two with Los Hermanos Morelos while I tried my best to keep it together after three healthy mezcals and a couple of Vicky's (do NOT try this at home without parental supervision, kidlets). Last night's post was a bit rough, but hey, I still got'er done and only misspelled one word in Spanish that I fixed this morning.

Sales were slow for downtown merchants today. Our weekend visitors from the inland cities and towns tend not to have the purchasing power we need, and the visitors who do have it tend to avoid downtown during the day on weekends.

The downtown waterfront restaurants were quite full of mostly visitors from abroad this evening. La Porteña had a waiting list and a line! Makes me glad that we live on Mexican time and that we take our main meal during the afternoon. But it is really good to see all of our visitors from Canada and the States! ¡Bienvenidos!

There was also quite a large gathering at La Cancha for the opening festivities for the Sailfest, which now seems to be more of a government-sponsored affair in benefit of certain politicians than that of an NGO. Can't say I didn't try to warn them. And that's also why I can't offer them my full-hearted support. Politicians are only too happy to use careless foreigners to enhance their own image, which is what "Por Los Niños" have allowed to happen. This is well-documented here over the past 25 years of their existence, I'm sorry to say. Just because people mean well doesn't mean that all they do is good.

Our picture-postcard-perfect weather continues. Refreshing mornings. Breezy sunny days. Restful nights. Except Sunday mornings when there's a sporting event and the city sends its leaf blowers to blow the sand off the waterfront walkway at 5 in the friggin' morning. I mean, WT absolute F?

Una vista icónica del área de los pescadores en Playa Principal en la tarde durante la hora de la comida con varios veleros visibles anclados en la bahía de Zihuatanejo. He visto crecer muchas de estas palmeras desde que fueron chiquitas. Por esto me duele tanto verlas cortadas solo para poner el cemento de un político avaricioso.
