Sounds like a great excuse to go see the monarch butterflies in Michoacán with a nice detour through Uruapan and/or Morelia and/or Pátzcuaro and its surrounding communities!

I truly enjoyed the archeological site that is currently being excavated about 25 minutes from town. The locals refer to it as "la Chole" they have wonderful tour guides who will tell you everything. Get a tour or hire a cab.

Spending an afternoon on Las Gatos and the view from Owen Lees preserve At the far end is incredible.
For restaurants the food at Medeterraneo's and at D'Angelo's are both great picks for a really nice meal.

My favorite bourique hotel is Casa Don Francisco At the end of La Ropa Beach. Reasonable prices with a FULL breakfast.

Since one of the options with this Message Board is to be able to see posts not just in chronological order but also in the order they were last responded to, "last Monday" may be quite difficult to locate amid all the more recent posts. Perhaps you could link to it?

This site is built so well, it's actually quite easy to do the chronological thing: Click on Frostbite's name, click on the hot link showing the number of posts, and there the are chronologically. Sweet!

I don't see a 7:17 one just this one. If I'm not wrong, you click on "frostbite", then, scroll down to see the number of posts and there is a blue, highlighted deal saying "show postings", click on that and voila! Your many posts are in order. Yes?

Yeah, what he said

I’ll certainly ditto Rob’s suggestion for the rewarding ‘northeast’ visit, including the many serene villages surrounding Lake Pátzcuaro, too. Definitely "Lost-n-FOUND" !! :-D

And, we’d also offer the equally rewarding ‘Adventures’ of the southeast option duly looping around always-wonderful Taxco, then Chilpancingo, Chilapa, and perhaps even swinging up to the lovely offerings around Olinalá and Acatlán.

If you have your own vehicle, then a rather thorough trip could definitely be had over a nice 10 day excursion…… with ooooodles of artesanía ‘prizes’ to be found along the way! MANY 'posada-style' lodgings enroute at veeeeery reasonable prices.....

Now I'm almost sorry we got rid of the Jeep.

As definitely not a large Jeep, you’d be surprised at just how spacious even our little Dodge wagon really IS with the back seat removed…… which we evidenced once again by baaaaarely fitting-in two BIG new urns for our front entry!! :-o

While not the intended ‘buy’ on our recent Michoacán trip, we stumbled upon a very unique potter in the hills outlying Pátzcuaro, who was absolutely delighted to take us through their entire home family workshop. The general firing techniques were a clear adaptation from nearby Cocucho, though the veeeery unusual shapes and distinctive artistry of their predominately LARGE pottery was something that we just couldn’t pass-up…... AGAIN!!

You would have certainly understood ‘the chemistry’ more than I, as they dumped-in a combo of pine bark and other tree resin ‘stuff’ into the kiln in the final stages of the firing, which results in a GORGEOUS metallic-silver finish to the pots…….. not unlike the 'black' gear from San Bartolo, Oaxaca, though with a UNmistakable super-high-fire ‘ping’ to the extremely durable finished product!!

‘The Old Gal’ thought that I was an absolutely “güero loco” when we made our final selection, as she sort of ‘raised her eyebrows’ when she glanced at the intended pots, then at the car…… Which yet again gave me the opportunity to drop one of my favorite jokes = “The ONLY thing in God’s Universe that NEVER lies (including God himself, on occasion!)….. is a Tape Measure" !! :-D

Yeah…… the BIG pots cleared the side doors by a mere ½ inch…… which might as well have been a Mile!!

We drove back from Patzcuaro with 3 people in the wagon and every other space packed with goodies. Mary sat in the passenger seat with a large sandstone sculpture of "Nuestra Senora De La Basura" from Tzintzuntzan crammed between her legs. Getting rid of the Jeep certainly helps curtail our spending.

We like Meson de San Antonio in Patzcuaro. Close to the center, but quiet. Google it for their website.
