¡Feliz Día de la Independencia Mexicana!

While there were quite a few people out'n'about Monday night wandering along the Paseo del Pescador and the streets of downtown Zihuatanejo, it seemed rather tame compared to previous years. I didn't hear blaring music or fireworks or gunfire all night long as has been customary in previous years. Something to be grateful for, except it seems to signify fewer visitors.

The parade this Tuesday morning was, for locals, much the same as previous years. The only difference being it seems there are more schoolchildren marching each year. Kind of depressing because we are already too many. But we are proud of our military, especially La Marina and La Guardia Nacional. All give so much to their country, and they deserve our gratitude. We have more women than ever in all the military services, and they are certainly proving themselves to be capable in every aspect.

Since today was an official holiday, many restaurants with employees didn't open since they have to pay double wages. The family-owned restaurants aren't affected the same, so they were the most popular places for dining out today. We were in heaven at El Buen Sazón, a favorite hideaway of ours owned by some neighbors. No frills food or service. Just delicious Mexican homestyle cooking.

Villas Los Arcos at Playa La Ropa is a wonderful lodging I truly enjoy being able to recommend. As if La Ropa isn't beautiful enough, this exquisitely designed and decorated lodging is a place one feels instantly at home in. I wish visitors would simply spend more time in lodgings like this instead of cutting down more of our trees and clearing more land to build more vacation and retirement homes.
