I don't get it. "ROB" was 100% wrong in his assessment. Time and events since then have proven so. But I gather neither he nor Dalejb pay any attention to Mexican news, since they both attacked me simply for being more knowledgeable on the subject than they are. As I said, time and events have proven my take on the situation to be correct. The violent protests were backed by losers such as the PRI and PAN political parties, who have both become mostly irrelevant in Mexican politics due to their corrupt practices. The protests were also backed by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who owns the Azteca news media, Banco Azteca and Elektra stores, and who owes hundreds of millions of pesos in back taxes that he doesn't want to pay. Last Saturday there was a much larger turnout in support of Presidenta Sheinbaum than the two protests combined. Over 600,000 people filled the Zócalo and surrounding streets. There was zero violence. No stores had to close. No steel barriers were put up around the businesses or Palacio Nacional. No one was arrested or detained. The presidenta continues to enjoy over 70% support of Mexicans. But no, to my detractors I was the one who was wrong for insisting that I knew what I was talking about, even though I did and they obviously (to me) didn't.

If indeed the protests are meant to curtail the violence in Mexico, then we wish them all the best. Still, we would love to hear your thoughts about how a mass protest against violence turned violent so quickly. What do you make of the reported “black bloc” of protesters? Where do you get that the protesters number in the millions? There certainly were many but no reports of that many individuals.

You and I obviously have different views on what constitutes showing respect and what constitutes showing disrespect. In my humble opinion, yes, the manner in which you post shows a serious lack of respect for our host.

On this point, I believe that we agree. But again, I do not pretend to be an expert on Mexican political culture and norms. I ask a whole lot of questions from Mexican citizens and get wildly different perspectives and viewpoints. I read as much as I can from various media outlets, most of whom I generally trust. However, I still always come away feeling unsettled with more questions than answers.

Again, various media outlets have different takes on this claim. However, some of the more reputable ones do verify this statistic. Do you trust the BBC? In their recent article about the protests, they maintain that La Presidenta still enjoys a 70% approval rating.
