Alarma Presidencial (reply)

We were in Huatulco. Visiting a new destination. I was in our hotel room. As my phone started alerting there was lots of shaking. I quickly left the room. Husband by pool just saw water moving. Staff very helpful. I did not know how my phone got the alert.

Alarma Presidencial (reply)

I was driving my 16 month old BYD vehicle when the Alarma Presidencial occurred. I had Apple CarPlay connected. Suddenly my vehicle started “screaming” at me. I thought it was some collision alert or critical disaster of my vehicle’s systems. It was the Alarma Presidencial being sent from my phone to the audio system’s speakers.

I can't imagine the scare that gave you. I'd only heard the Alarma Presidencial one other time, so when it went off it took me a couple of seconds to get that it wasn't my usual SkyAlert or SASSLA alarm. It does do the trick of getting one's immediate attention. But yeah, having it go off over the car's speakers while driving is surely an unexpected fright.

The waves predicted the other day by the Secretaría de Marina haven't appeared inside Zihuatanejo's bay. In Ixtapa the waves are so calm that people are swimming all parts of Playa El Palmar without difficulty. And the beaches in Zihuatanejo were busy today, including Playa Principal where folks can enjoy the beach without having their bags searched or being treated like criminals for having a glass jar of mayonnaise or mustard in their picnic basket.

For la comida today, first our pizza was slow to arrive, normally no big deal but we were all hungry. Then after it arrived the lights went out, so that wasn't any fun, then right after the lights came back on and we settled down to watch some of the Olympics with our pizza the seismic alarms go off, including the Alarma Presidencial, a new system that also warns people who don't have any of the seismic warning applications. I started to grab my pizza to run outside with it when one of my seismic warning apps told me the quake was near Puerto Escondido, so I sat back down and hoped nothing else bad would happen while we tried to enjoy our comida. What a frustrating meal time!

This Sunday is a good evening to come enjoy the gastronomical event along Paseo del Pescador. Most of the visiting extranjeros are watching the Super Bowl, so the rest of us have the place all to ourselves! Gonna do me some serious mezcal tasting! No long lines like there were last night.

Next Friday evening from 5 to 9PM in Plaza del Artista come enjoy tasting some of our local coffee. Part of the Expo Café Zihuatanejo events scheduled for next Friday and Saturday.
The complex has a pool, but the ocean at La Madera is often calm enough for easy swimming. (click to enlarge photo)
