How 'bout that rain last night! Right around 11PM I heard and smelled it. It washed away quite a bit of dust, but it didn't last very long. Not enough to even discolor the water in the bay. And the Canal La Boquita has its entrance plugged up high with sand from the mar de fondo event, so the water has to rise way above normal before it can flow out of the canal. Meaning it has the potential to cause intense flooding in the area of López Impresores and a large section of our downtown area. Also, if the canal fills up with fresh water, there will be mosquitos. A problem we didn't seem to even have last year.

The first Volaris flight from Puebla arrived today, so there's a new place to visit with direct flights. We saw some nicely dressed tourists strolling around who looked like they had some pesos to spend, so that's a good sign even if they're only a relatively few.

Zihuatanejo is getting two more companies of Guardia Nacional. Thank goodness the federal government is stepping up to improve security in the municipio of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, because the municipal government certainly isn't.

In the Funny, Not Funny department, today the municipal government revealed today that the destruction of Ixtapa's Plaza Principal and its paving with small colored cement blocks and sickly palm trees that provide no shade (similar to Zihuatanejo's main plaza) cost taxpayers over 11 million pesos. Sounds quite high to locals in the know. The formerly charming plaza with its colonial character is now an oven during sunny days, and folks aren't happy, especially for 11 million pesos. The disaster of Zihuatanejo's pier entrance is going to cost even more. Around 17 million pesos, if I recall correctly. Sinvergüenza is a word that comes to mind.

We should start seeing more rains in the coming days, so keep your umbrella handy and wear your waterproof sandals.
