As I predicted the other day in my post, yesterday evening's rain caused the downtown area to flood worse than usual for a short rain of only a couple of hours thanks in large part to the mouth of the canal La Boquita being stopped up with sand almost to the same level as the Paseo del Pescador. This caused the water to shoot out of the drainage tube near the corner of López Impresores. A simple hatch with a float on it on the canal side would prevent water from flowing out of the canal. A solution so simple it's escaped the municipal government for over 20 years since I've been pointing it out to them, along with the solution.

How 'bout that fútbol match last night? Mexico 5 - Serbia 1. Yes, thanks to Serbia for the 2 auto-goals they made for us. Still, our team looked pretty good while the Serbians were gasping for oxygen in Toluca where the match was held. A taste of things to come for other teams from sea level like South Africa.

So we have some serious weather headed our way, and last night's brief rain showed how poorly Zihuatanejo is prepared for the storm season, the topic of much conversation today by locals on social media. But hey, we're going to have a huge flat cement griddle at the pier with a few sickly palm trees so that the mayor can have a bigger area for her fiestas. We should be thankful, right?

My mother would've been 89 today. I miss celebrating our birthdays together as we used to do for so many decades. Today's music at the top of the page was one of her favorite songs she liked to ask local musicians to play.

Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.
