Restaurant on Playa Larga - OLEAJE (reply)

We, my friends, family and I, think Oleaje is the best. I have not gotten into the ocean there in over 25 years. Not that I think the waves were smaller then. I just think I got way smarter. Glad you enjoyed it there.

Restaurant on Playa Larga (reply)

Yes and no. It depends on the surf. Last week while there, we were able to go in because the surf was pretty calm for there. The waves don't really peel off in one direction(left or right)they crash straight down therefore I wouldn't recommend boogie boarding or body surfing. A sure way to break a neck. There can be strong undertows also that will sweep you feet out from under you and pull you out. Swim smart, swim with a partner and with little ones, just use common sense. Most of the places have pools for them.
I work on an Atlantic Ocean beach and know what being careless can do. I've seen it to many times. Fortunately we have lifeguards to watch over us.

We tried El Caguamo today, we'll try Oleaje next time. Could have gone for a (careful) swim today: the waves were small for Larga. Last night the seas must have been a little rough, 'cuz I collected 38 ojos de venados along the beach....a beachcomber's bonanza for this area, which doesn't often provide much in the way of shells or other collectibles.
We've been to Larga a half dozen times this trip, but still haven't seen any dolphins. Whales won't show up until January/February.

If you go during the week and at the normal time we eat lunch, you can have wonderful food at Oleaje plus cool off in the pool. No hassle with kids. They come later or on weekends. We love just listening to the waves and and watching for dolfins.

Every man for himself. But for my dollar go to El Caguamo. At the T make a right and go down about 5 restaurants. LLLLLAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGEEEEE pool by the entrance. Roberto and his wife Ene are the proprietors with the biggest smiles on the beach. Lupe is the waiter and his wife does the cooking along with Roberto. Seafood fresh, awesome portions and great prices. A cool breeze along with the warm seas. BE THERE. Great mezcal also.

We like Popeyes, turn left at the T, maybe the 4th place down. Haven't tried Oleaje or El Caguamo, but we will.
As far as pools are concerned, most of the ones at Playa Larga seem to be intended for the kids - and on the few days that any of Larga's restaurants are busy, you wouldn't want to share the pools with the kids.
That said, in addition to a kid's pool at the restaurant, Popeyes also has a large pool across the road.
Another choice, albeit a longer drive from Zihua, is Restaurant Lagartos on Playa Blanca. Nice little pool, terrific food and, important to us, none of the pounding hip-hop crap that sometimes can spoil an afternoon at Larga.

I have always liked 4 hermonos. Excellent food and Great service. When you get to the end of the road ( the T ) make a left, second restaurant on the right. Get a table closest to the water. Awesome view. Might even see some Dolphins close to shore.

I like going to Oleaje and the owner is Edy who has been around since the Captain's Table. He was the bartender there. They have great food at good prices and a small dipping pool. I would go on and say they have a great view but that is laughable. Where in the world at Playa Larga is there NOT a great view. I go there a lot and several people I know go there also. Could not find nicer people.

When you get to the T there at the beach go to your RIGHT and it is the first restaurant on the left.
