The rains from the passing tropical disturbance-turned-storm were frankly quite disappointing for us locally. Although there were a couple of good downpours, they were brief. Most of the night there was barely a perceptible sprinkle in downtown Zihuatanejo. The rainstorm began just after 7 this morning and lasted several hours, but it was mostly a light rain. From further down the coast there were reports of torrential downpours and rising rivers, but here it was just enough to water some wilting greenery on our hillsides and keep the vegetation a dense verdant green a little while longer where there's still vegetation.

The port opened back up early this Friday so that fishermen could fish outside Zihuatanejo's bay again. And Playa Linda's pier managed to remain open. Storm waves could still affect us for a while.

Hardly any visitors around today even though it's a long weekend. Hopefully more will show up this Saturday. El Grito de la Independencia will be next Monday evening, and Tuesday morning, the actual Día de la Independencia, there will be a parade downtown starting at 8:00 A.M. The public is welcome to join our mayor, Lizette Castro, at the Palacio Municipal de Zihuatanejo for El Grito on Monday evening. However, I suspect most people across the country will be tuning in to a Mexican TV channel or to YouTube to watch Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum give the first Grito de Independencia by a woman president ever in Mexico. Quite a historical affair for Mexico.

It started to sprinkle again this Friday evening around 7. We went for a stroll along the waterfront anyway. It was great! The only puddles were on the pier. Another beautiful day to be grateful for.

Remember, the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" happens every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande (that just celebrated its 32nd anniversary) in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.

A favorite location for many visitors, Amor del Sol located overlooking Playa La Madera is an extremely comfortable and nicely appointed condominium that offers from 1 to 3 bedrooms (only pay for what you need!).
