This Friday at noon there's going to be a "Simulacro Nacional" to test emergency systems in case of a large earthquake. So don't be alarmed when emergency notices get sent to millions of cellphones. Be sure you have "Government Alerts" turned ON in your phone's configuration under Notifications.

One more reason that you must learn Spanish if you spend time here. You can't expect emergency personnel to speak English if anything happens to you. All too often I see people asking about doctors who speak English. You shouldn't need them to. ¡Practícalo!

We still had huge waves along our coast this Thursday morning, but by the evening things were back to normal and the waves were small again. No mar de fondo event is present or predicted.

Another swirly thing will be present off our coast in the coming days while another one moves away, so we could be getting some wind and rain this weekend. Keep your eyes on the weather forecast for Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa.

Quite a few sea turtles came ashore last night, but I saw numerous tracks, some that that meandered widely and others that returned to the water without making their nest or laying their eggs. A sign that they were disoriented by the bright lights along the waterfront. Maybe someday our municipal Ecología office will take their duties more seriously.
