Small Groups, Long Journeys

Getting a group together in a country that is not in the country of interest is a waste of energy and does noting but generate negative responses. It further proves to those that walk by how divided a nation can be.

I wonder whether you say the same thing about people in the US publicly showing their disapproval of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, or the October 7 Hamas attack, or the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians by Netanyahu’s right wing government.

Should citizens around the world be so insular that they don’t express their views?

Regarding proving how divided America is, the actions of private individuals cannot compare to those of a president who:

publicly proclaims that he hates his opponents;

politically prosecutes those who did their jobs successfully but not in accordance with his wishes, and;

declares that he welcomes the opportunity to fire thousands of public employees, focusing on “Democrat oriented” individuals.

It seems to me that “the land of the free and the home of the brave” is increasingly becoming the land of those who are looking over their shoulders.

These small groups of thoughtful, committed citizens might seem insignificant, but remember what Margaret Mead said,

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

And what Lao Tzu said,

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Those demonstrating against the emerging autocracy in the United States are small groups who are beginning long journeys.
