Otra Tormenta Nos ViZIHta
What an interesting Wednesday morning in Zihuatanejo. At daybreak storm clouds loomed on the horizon and quickly overtook Zihuatanejo. Lupita and I walked our dog down to La Boquita bakery to buy some goodies for breakfast, but just as we arrived the wind picked up the first sprinkles started. We double-timed our walk back and made it home just in time to beat the rainfall that followed. I checked the forecast that said the heavy rain wasn't due for another hour and a half. Huh. Well, it wasn't totally wrong, the steady rain got stronger, and it rained pretty hard for a while, but nothing torrential. Once it stopped raining the sun kept trying to peek out, finally breaking through around noon. Much to our surprise, visitors showed up, and local merchants enjoyed some sales since the beaches were too damp for enjoying and the water was too muddy for swimming in.
The Danzón dancers never showed up this evening at Plaza Kioto. Bummer. It would've been a perfect evening for them since the weather cooperated.
This evening the downtown waterfront was mostly empty even though there was a women's basketball game going on at the Cancha Municipal. Hardly anyone was out walking or sitting at the pier. It's kind of nice to have the place to ourselves and greet old friends along the way.
The more the forecast models run for the area of disturbed tropical air off our coast, the more they seem to confirm that it isn't going to form up into a hurricane but instead blow itself out as it moves northward off the coast. We'll still likely get some heavy rains and strong gusts of winds this coming weekend and early next week, but we seem to be dodging another bullet, thank goodness.
Enjoy your pozole this jueves pozolero!
A place I really like to recommend, like an oasis in paradise, is Casa Tucanes. A beautiful vacation lodging located on the edge of La Ropa's coconut grove surrounded by lush gardens, a short walking distance to the beach. They offer three 1- and 2-bedroom villas, two 2-bedroom bungalows and two simple guest rooms. They also have a pool, they are pet friendly and wonderful hosts.
