Thursday morning was refreshing with mostly clear skies, though a few storm clouds could be seen on the western horizon, taunting us again as our rainy season dries up.

A mar de fondo event is currently occurring along the Pacific coast of Mexico with waves from 2 to 3 meters in height along the open coast. In Zihuatanejo Bay the waves have been gentle, perfect for swimmers. Someone was even out water-skiing early this morning.

Local restaurants and watering holes that have sat empty or closed for months are now open and several were full of north-of-the-border folk this evening when we strolled around. Many fresh arrivals, still untanned. Local businesses are certainly glad to see many "regulars" returning.

A giant Katrina at Plaza Kioto was lit up this evening with lights and a fireworks display in the presence of the mayor, who was of course posing for photos before setting off in a great procession of party atmosphere for the Cancha Municipal. Somehow our formerly solemn remembrance of lost family members has become quite a Disney-esque and Halloweenish affair. Meanwhile, families like mine will still grieve and remember our lost loved ones and visit their gravesites.
