Perceptions of Risk and Real Risk

My brother-in-law was a career police officer. He told me that most non-criminals are more likely to die in a vehicle collision than by homicide.

I suspect that as an emergency department physician you saw more people who needed medical attention due to accidents, sports injuries, stupidity, etc. than due to “collateral damage” from criminal actions.

I have seen more “walking wounded” as the result of parasailing and banana boats than I have with wounds.
