El IniZIHo de la Semana
Monday morning got off to a cool and quiet start. Busloads of tourists arrived, dragging their suitcases along Avenida La Boquita and Juan N. Álvarez, unable to buy anything at Oxxo or any other store or restaurant since all appeared closed except Panadería La Boquita. Schools closed even after the Gobernadora said last night that they wouldn't. Café Caracol had most of its regulars enjoying coffee and pan dulce. Most banks and businesses didn't open until around noon or soon thereafter. Slowly but surely traffic picked up, public transportation started running, and it was almost another normal day. El Buen Sazón provided our comidas today, La Jaiba Feliz remained closed. Beachside, most of the downtown waterfront restaurants were closed except for Sirena Gorda where they were doing a good business and watching the Abierto de Tenis Acapulco. Though the number of water taxis appeared reduced, they were still running this evening returning the day trippers from Las Gatas when we strolled to the pier earlier this evening.
The bay has been calm as glass most of the day with the tiniest of waves and the slightest of breezes. The day's mild temperatures made it perfectly comfortable for enjoying the beach. There's even a chance of rain in the forecast for the next several days. Oh boy!
Expect increased security by the Guardia Nacional, Marina and Ejército for the next few days at least. If you've lived in Guerrero as long as I have, maybe you'll appreciate their presence as much as I do even though I clearly recall the days of the Guerra Sucia when the Ejército was NOT our friend. This is nothing like having ICE on the streets of the USA. More people than ever now support and trust Mexico's military and our Guardia Nacional. Twenty-five of their members were killed on Monday by cowardly criminals, including at least one member from Zihuatanejo, and the country owes them and their families our deepest condolences, gratitude and respect.
Surfers will continue to be disappointed for the next couple of days.
Location is everything, and located front and center on El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa with all the amenities of a resort hotel you'll find Tesoro Ixtapa Condos. 1- and 2BR furnished vacation rental condos with use of pool, restaurants and beach services. One on the 2nd floor, the other on the 6th. Spectacular views!
