Why are we being told this?

I think this is really serious. Are the bus sindicatos doing anything to increase security? Was this on a combi? Did they rob the driver? I could not find anything in the local news sites. Any know anything besides what's been posted here?

I do not minimize the experience of being robbed. It could be terrifying, although I remember an American ex-Pat telling me, “I would rather be robbed here than in the US. Here they rob you and leave. Back home they rob you then kill you.. My housekeeper talked with me about robbery on a combi she was on. She told it as a story that was an irritant, but not as a traumatic event.

I looked at the local media for a report about the robbery reported here anonymously and like you I found nothing. Hmm.

I note that the user who posted about the alleged incident registered here on the morning of March 16 posted the report minutes later, and hasn’t logged in again since March 16. Hmm.

I also wonder about an armed robbery in the middle of the morning, on public transportation, on a four to six lane tourism highway, in a populated area that is frequented by armed guardia, marina, police of various kinds, taxis, and frequent combis. I’m not saying it is impossible, but if I were a bad guy, I think I would be targeting a vehicle with more people in it, in a less populated/less populated and less patrolled area, like a micro on the La Union route where there is no practical ability for a driver to go into a different lane.

If the event did take place, I would put it in the context of what was reported in La Voz.

Young man found dead

Two people seriously injured in a shooting

In the context of these, a loss of money without anyone allegedly being injured, let alone dying, while no doubt distressing, seems to me to be of lesser seriousness.

Rob recently purged the board of some users who seemed to have penchant for posting allegations of bad aspects of the area without substantiation. At times like this I remember a question that was used about media during the PRI hegemony, “Why am I being told this? And why now?

I know the person who posted the original message about the robbery. I can vouch for them. I have no reason to doubt the incident happened. And I believe people here, including our visitors, should be aware of these things. It's no small thing to lose your wallet, money, cellphone, ID, and other personal belongings. It's sad that in parts of the country, mostly around Mexico City, this is commonplace, and people buy cheap cellphones to go to work with just for this purpose.
