SO when this project is finished and there is an event happening, how is that going to affect the comings and goings of people using the pier for it's intended purpose, like Las Gatas traffic?
I guess they'll figure it out, but that's not the point. The point is there's no justification, no need for this project that overrides all of Zihuatanejo's other needs. It's an excuse for a billing the government for the cement the mayor's husband's cement company will sell for the project.
Not that long ago when the previous pier was damaged by age, earthquakes and huge swells, we had the small pier behind the port captain's office to use. Thank goodness, because there was nothing else available except picking up and dropping off people at the beach when the waves allowed, which during the stormy season is problematic. The small pier and the walkway behind the port captain's office do not appear in any rendering I've seen. Yet another strike against this unnecessary project in case something should happen to the pier.
If the Port Captain does not wish to use the building it has occupied since I arrived here 37 years ago, then the building should be LEASED OUT or REPURPOSED (free public bathrooms would be nice). Tearing it down to put in a new cement walkway and palm trees is simply a terribly stupid use of the area.
