Public Service Announcement

Ah, Loreto. I liked it but one has to go searching for Mexico. We were staying in a gringo community called Loreto Bay, which is pretty much like staying in a Palm Springs gated community, only on the Sea of Cortez. Nothing wrong with that and I enjoyed my time there. A friend has a very nice house and has been after us to come down for years. I finally gave in and am glad I did. I'd go back (the sooner the better). Free lodging is a very good thing, and my friends are superb hosts and revelers.

There are two missions close by. The one in town was the first mission on Baja. I believe they call it the Head and the Mother of the Baja missions. The one up in the mountains is a great visit, and trip. About an hour-thirty from Loreto Bay and you'd better have a 4WD vehicle.

I liked Loreto proper but there are many ex-pats around. The people I was staying with tend to congregate in the places where the ex-pats congregate. Again, nothing wrong with that, I just prefer a more down home kind of place, one where I can put my Spanglish to good use.

As I say, I had a great time (until LAX) and would/will return.
