Visitors got their money's worth today! From sunrise to sundown it's been another absolutely picture-postcard-perfect day of tropical weather with balmy breezes and plenty of sunshine. It tried to sprinkle right after sunset, and there was lightning on the eastern horizon, but still no rainfall. This may be the dryest September in years.

Since siesta time this Sunday afternoon I've been hearing/feeling subwoofers vibrating our home, I'm sure in other parts of the bay they were also noticeable, and I thought it must be a nearby bar or perhaps a car parked in the street. No. It's the municipal government's sound system for an event at the Cancha Municipal this evening. They appear to have no problem causing children and others to go DEAF or to cause the physical deterioration of local buildings. I really thought our mayor and her government were better-educated than this, but to my great disappointment no. I just saw her smiling, posing for selfies, looking radiant, and celebrating at the event while ignoring the deafening and dangerous low tones of the over-amped subwoofers. Like I said, very disappointing.

I continue thanking the lucky stars that first brought me here in '74. I suspected that when I came here to "check on my mother" in '89 that it would be the end of Stateside living for me since I'd felt like an outsider in the continental USA ever since I lived in the USVI. This is a place I loved living even though life was relatively primitive and tough when I first lived here. The people and the culture make it wonderful enough, but my wife makes me feel more alive and fortunate than I'd ever felt anywhere else. A feeling that continues to this day. I have little doubt I'm the luckiest Gringo in Mexico. But don't take my word for it. Google it!

I hope everyone here enjoys the Día del Grito ceremony this Monday evening. Most Mexicans are extremely grateful and proud of the sacrifices and examples set by the people who made Mexico's independence from Spain possible. We shout out ¡VIVA! with pride and love for this amazing country and its unique culture.
