Canada, Mexico Agree to Deepen Ties

I’m glad to read this. Let’s hope it comes to something.

Canada, Mexico Agree to Deepen Ties

(Prime Minister Mark) Carney said the new agreement would "elevate an already strong relationship."

Sheinbaum, meanwhile, said she expects the agreements made between herself and Carney would bear fruit in the near term. "Mexico and Canada will continue walking together, with mutual respect and with a certainty that co-operation is the path to overcome any challenge," Sheinbaum said in Spanish.

Some American travelers are ‘flag jacking’ and Canadians are livid
By Vivian Song

Chelsea Metzger didn’t set out to pretend she was Canadian.
It was only after a heated confrontation with Canadians and a surprising exchange with a local taxi driver during her vacation in the Dominican Republic earlier this year that the American tourist from upstate New York resorted to lying about her nationality for the first time.
Metzger, 33, and her fiancé were at a French-Canadian bar in El Pueblito in February, which was showing the final of the 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament between Canada and the US.
When the American team scored a goal, Metzger’s lone, “Woo, USA,” did not go down well.
“A Canadian couple screamed at me, saying that America is selfish, and ruining everything for Canada and the world,” Metzger told CNN. “The girl started crying, and said, ‘I don’t think Americans realize that what’s going on is really affecting us here.’”
Metzger tried to defend herself, explaining that she didn’t vote for Trump. But tempers flared under the influence of alcohol. Eventually, the situation de-escalated and the couple returned to apologize with a flight of shots.
“I told her I get it. As somebody who didn’t vote for this, it’s affecting everyone. We’re all feeling the effects of it and unfortunately, the only thing we can do right now is ride it out together.”

She is midguided. Agent Orange has no intention of ever leaving the White House unless on a stretcher. No doubt he is already talking with his six sycophants on the Supreme Court about how they can reinterupt the 22nd Amendment so that it really only meant two consecutive terms. Since the Orange Mussolini has had 2 terms but they weren't consecutive, then he can run again. QED.

Of course, if that doesn't work, he will just declare martial law and cancel the elections saying, "If Ukraine can do it, so can we."

The only ones who can save the Republic from this Dictator-Wannabe'-Who-Is-Making-His-Wish-A-Reality are the Republicans in Congress. But they have no spine. They are invertebrates. We iz skrewed.

Or he could borrow from the Erdogan playbook and imprison all potential political opponents on "corruption" and "terrorism" charges. A guy who started out as a moderate, or at least a pragmatist. Power really does bring out the worst in men.

Better go build an underground shelter and go hide from the world. I love those that have such a tilted view of life and how good we really have it. Really, the president (which we should still call out of respect, even if we do not care for the person that holds the office) is in no way shape or form going to hold that office beyond this term. It will not happen. So in 3 years we can all get back to normal with maybe a few changes to have a new normal. All of this happens with every change of administration. Sometimes, such as now, it happens in an irrational way. Deal with it.

Trump is not the problem. Trump is a symptom. The problems run much deeper. Imagine if Trump had a stroke tonight and became significantly incapacitated. JD Vance would “caretaker” in Trump’s image. Imagine if Trump were to have a heart attack in his sleep tonight and never wake up. JD Vance continue Trump’s approach because it is politically successful.

The schism in the United States is much deeper than one person.

Please read or reread 1984.

I pray you are correct. I fear you are wrong. Have you followed any of the Supreme Court rulings lately? Who would have thought that the Supreme Court would have thrown out racial profiling, prohibited since the days of Jim Crow laws? There does not seem to be any guardrail of democracy that this court will trample to make the Orange Mussolini happy.

Perhaps you should pull your head from the orange one's arse end. Nothing about any of this is normal. I don't believe in building bunkers, that's for the your side. I believe in fighting injustice where I can and when I can. As for respecting the office of the president, there is no office without the president and the current occupant of that office has sullied it to no end. So, sorry, but respect is not an option at this point. As for leaving the White House, Trump has indicated repeatedly that he thinks he should have another term, a Supreme Court Justice recently mused that such a thing might be possible. Listen to the man, he tells you what he is planning and he and his sycophants then put those plans in motion consistently whether constitutional or not. Personally, I don't think he lives that long due to poor health.

Now we have the silencing of critics. Mulling over pulling FCC credentials of networks that won't bend the knee or are too critical. None of this is normal and hasn't been normal in my lifetime. This does not happen every time an administration changes, that is pure horse hocky. It didn't happen when Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush 1, Bush 2 or Obama were elected. To try and pretend it did is ingenious and nullifies anything else you may try and argue.

As far as dealing with it, I am and so are many others. Unlike you we prefer to see the truth and not bury our heads in the sand and pretend that every thing is just hunky dory.

I doubt Trump survives his term. But in fairness I thought he would have shuffled off a long time ago. He's a walking, talking advertisement for a stroke or coronary, and has been for a long time. My guess is, though, if he's still staining this earth in '28 that he'll be such a gibbering gabboon that even his own party will reject him. But I have no doubt that if he still has two synapses and is able to spray on his tan every morning he'll try again. He got that sweet, intoxicating taste for violence on Jan 6th and nearly succeeded. Besides, he'll have nothing to lose, given his built-in immunity. And this Supreme Court will be no obstacle.

Republicans and Trump have learned something that the American people overall have not. That at its basest level democracy is fragile and paper thin (and civilization too for that matter), and in the end what really matters is raw, brute power.

It would be nice if you were right but history doesn't agree. Authoritarians do not not relinquish power voluntarily. I agree that Trump will not serve a third term as his time on this earthly plain seems to be short. He's not running the show as evidenced by the executive orders that he didn't write, doesn't understand and signs without question.

Trump 2.0 has two goals: punish his perceived enemies and enrich himself by twisting arms. I do not respect him because he does not respect the office he holds.

Flag Jacking - Going Up the Country

by Little Guy @, Friday, September 19, 2025, 11:23 (360 days ago) @ Yandosan

I’m listening to the 1968 song, Going Up the Country by Canned Heat as I type. That was another time when Americans were leaving their country, some psychologically; some by gestures and expression of dissent; and yes, “flag jacking”. Some were even acting on the line, “We might even leave the USA”.

I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away.
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away.
All this fussing and fighting, man, you know I sure can't stay.

Throughout my life I have worked with a number of Americans who had left their country during that time, some for decades, some to never return.

Stephen Marche is a Canadian who loves America. I am increasingly aware of the relevance of Marche’s 2022 book, The Next Civil War. In it he writes,

Difference is the core of the American experience. Difference is its genius. There has never been a country—in history, in the world—so comfortable with difference, so full of difference. The great insight of its founders was that they based government not on the drive toward consensus but on the permission for disagreement.

Once partisan drive takes precedence over the national interest, it shreds the tension underlying the system. Unless both sides believe that they're on the same side, they aren't. And once shared purpose disappears, it's gone. A flaw lurked right at the core of the experiment, as flaws so often do in works of ambitious genius.

I hope that America will get through this dark time. I hope that Marche’s worst case scenario does not occur. But it is increasingly difficult to be hopeful about our neighbour between Mexico and Canada.

Finally someone with some common sense. All this yelling and screaming and shooting and parades of special interest groups that have their feeling hurt. You think this is the first time that there has been big issues to deal with. Thank you, Little Guy....

I find your comment interesting. I could easily substitute the nouns as follows. Is it your opinion that it “means absolutely nothing”?

Facing threats from outside, my wife and I vowed to “continue walking together, with mutual respect and with a certainty that co-operation is the path to overcome any challenge,"

I have a Google translation app. I fed this blurb (above) into it and got the following translation. "The current President of the United States is infantile, vindictive, and egomaniacal, and supported by a demographic that enjoys the bloodlust of unilateral lawless violence, censorship and disruption. During the next three years we are most likely stuck with him, in the geographic middle, so let's adhere to rule of law and diplomacy in these trying times and try to make the best of things."

It's YOU who appear naïve thinking that a meeting between Canada's and Mexico's leaders is just a photo op, especially right now while Putin's pedophile asset currently defiling the White House is ruining the USA and proving to be a weak, unreliable military ally and business partner.

Here in Mexico we are encouraged by the comments aired after the meetings between the heads of state and their Cabinet members. Especially here in Guerrero where Canada has extensive mining operations that have been in trouble for violating environmental laws. Some of their comments dealt with this matter. If it's just "drivel", as you claim, then Canadian mining companies won't be operating in Guerrero much longer.

The rest of the world is moving ahead and leaving the USA behind. Seeking new markets, new strategies, new alliances. Both Mexico and Canada have implemented similar strategies to accomplish these new goals. Their meeting had much to do with fine tuning these strategies for our mutual benefit.
