PoZIHbilidad de Tormentas
Another bright, beautiful morning in Zihuatanejo after a restful night of perfect sleeping weather. We had a nice light rain this Thursday in the late afternoon-early evening that once again cooled off all the hot cement and brought the temperature down. This is by far the best time of the year to be here! Beautiful green jungled hillsides. No noisy all-night bars. No waiting for tables in the best restaurants. Plenty of taxis. No traffic jams. No fighting over lounge chairs on the beach. It's pure joy to be here!
The big swirly thing forming off our coast looks like it's going to be a real monster. Fortunately, it's predicted to stay well offshore and eventually head north-northwest. Nevertheless, we should expect the worst during this weekend including plenty of rain, gusting winds and high waves along the coast.
I forgot to mention in yesterday's post my profound sadness at the passing of Jane Goodall yesterday morning. She was one of my childhood heroines who set a wonderful example for humanity. We could certainly use more humans like her in the world. She was just here in Mexico where she gave her last interview. Here it is if you'd like to see it.
Jane Goodall: Una Persona Sí Puede Cambiar el Mundo
A couple of months ago I mentioned that the fruit bats were missing. We still aren't seeing very many of them, but a few have been swooping through the amate trees full of figs along the waterfront this week.
We also don't seem to have any mosquitos or jejénes in the area of the downtown waterfront. I've seen maybe two mosquitos in the past 3 months. I'm usually a magnet for them, and the jejénes usually tear me up something fierce, but nothing all year. I hope the ecosystem isn't ruined.
One of the nicest lodgings at Troncones that seems to have something for everyone is Casa de La Sirena. A luxurious private beachfront compound in Troncones featuring a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, three 1-bedroom MiniVillas, and two side-by-side 2-story 1-bedroom bungalows that share a pool. Truly an oasis in paradise! (click to enlarge photo)
