We enjoyed a partially cloudy morning that later turned into a beautiful day for the beach, but most of the visitors here are at all-inclusive hotels in Ixtapa and they barely leave the property, so Zihuatanejo's beaches remained mostly empty today as did its shops and restaurants.

A Mexicana naval vessel was in Zihuatanejo's bay when the sun rose this morning. I couldn't make out its name, and since we don't have local newspapers with real reporters, no local newspaper even bothered to mention it. My family and I are grateful for the Mexican navy's presence here.

The municipal government sent the DJ for the Danzón dancers to Plaza del Artista around 2PM this afternoon. Way too early. And of course the DJ needed to be reminded that siesta is a cultural observance here.

But then at 6PM when the dancers showed up they decided to cancel because it looked like it was going to rain. However, it barely sprinkled for a few minutes, not even enough to wet the pavement or form puddles. The Danzón dancers' events were better before they got the municipal government involved.

Schools will be closed this Thursday due to the weather coming our way. A poorly developed swirly thing is making its way along the coast, and it's expected to cause torrential rains from the Costa Chica to the Costa Grande. I expect there will be some gusting winds and large waves along the coast as well. This is the time of year to pay close attention to swirly things forming up in the Bahía de Tehuantepec. Around midnight this Thursday appears to be when the worst of it will be hitting us. So locally you should still be able to enjoy jueves pozolera at your favorite pozolería.
