While out walking our dog we sensed there was an extra degree of coolness in the air this Friday morning. Somewhere a breeze from the sierra must've found its way downhill to our coast, though this is where it died, because there wasn't enough breeze here in Zihuatanejo to rustle a single palm frond this morning. But for a few brief moments, there it was. A freshness. A promise. A taste of things to come.

A beautiful bull that got loose on the streets today in downtown Zihuatanejo reminded me of how things were when I first lived here in '74. It was a déjà vu moment. Bulls, cows, burros, pigs, chickens and roosters were common sights sounds and smells back then. Even on the beaches including La Ropa, which just makes the stupid Blue Flag rules seem even that much more absurd and out of touch with local mores.

The arrival continues en masse of folks from north of the border. I hope the flight delays in the States don't ruin anyone's vacation. Get while the gettin's good! Local restaurants all along the waterfront were mostly full of new arrivals greeting each other. I ran into a nice couple early this morning who had just arrived, and the joy on their faces of being here was priceless.

Don't forget, the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.

Full of Bull. Was the bull part of the CABALGATA scheduled for today 8 November?

Local news media are announcing that the annual horse parade is scheduled to begin today at 4 pm in Ixtapa and will end in Zihuatanejo at Las Salinas.

As much as I miss the 1990s’ rural atmosphere of Troncones, I don’t miss losing a year’s worth of foliage growth to the goats that would get into my yard.

It was convenient though when I could toss my produce scraps over the fence knowing that the roaming pigs would clean them up before the end of the day.
