Last night wasn't as cool as previous nights, and this Friday it got up to 35°C, quite warm for this time of year. There's hardly been a breeze of any kind for days. But in spite of almost no wind, several sailboats have still arrived to Zihuatanejo in the past few days. Some just passing through, but others will be here longer. Welcome back!

What a marvelous event the Fandango Costeño was again in Plaza del Artista this Friday evening. What a joy to watch the young dancers taking turns 3 couples at a time on 3 different tarimas displaying their wonderful talent. This is some of the best of our local culture! I saw a few foreigners wander up, take photos and wander off, so I'm guessing this isn't your all's cup of tea, but the place was packed with locals and national tourists clapping and shouting support. While I could hear and watch from my office, I had to go upstairs to our azotea for a while to clap and shout my support as well. The event was simply too beautiful not to take some time off from working to enjoy!

Whale sightings continue, including with their newborns. While the official season is from December 15 until March 20, many local charter captains have already received their whale watching certification for this year.

There had been warnings earlier this week about driving through Michoacán, but the different problems causing the warnings appear to be over for now and traffic once again appears to be normal and the buses are running again. Meanwhile, work continues on the renewed highway from Toluca that will supposedly be much better and safer route than the current Carretera de Toluca. Experience tells me we should be dreading new and improved roads for driving here instead of celebrating them.
