Damn! It's DECEMBER already! I miss the rainy season! Where'd the year go? That was it? Are you kidding me?

The bay is full of sardines and seabirds right now, including hundreds of pelicans. I'm surprised they aren't being harassed more by frigate birds, but I suspect the frigates have an even better fishing spot without any competition, since fish seem to be plentiful right now, and schools of bait fish are showing up all up and down the coast. In recent mornings there've been dozens of fishermen along Playa principal, some with cast nets, some with fishing poles, some with hand lines. This morning they were doing quite will as huge schools of sardines were chased by larger fish, often jureles, right into the waiting arms of the fishermen. One more reason we call this place "paradise". You can see actually see the schools of fish during the early morning on some of the webcams on my BEACHES page.

If you're still looking for December lodging, Casa Parfait still has a week open.

The hillsides are losing their green and will soon be dry and brown. Fires are already being reported in the region due to dry vegetation. Glad I don't live on any of our hillsides. Tinderboxes awaiting a catastrophe.

It sure is good to see so many visitors arriving. More people with familiar faces are greeting us on our daily walks. It may take me a while to remember people's names, so please forgive my blank stare when you greet me even though we've met and known each other for years. I've lived in tourist destinations for so long I've probably met close to a million people by now, and the names just don't stick anymore. It just takes a little click for the memories to come back, so please help me out and offer me up a name when you greet me. ;-)

Cardúmenes de sardinas atraen pescadores y pelícanos durante el amanecer en Zihuatanejo. Parecen huellas de un cocodrilo en la arena que paseó en la playa y regresó al mar.

Love seeing the deep purple cloud of sardines moving just under the surface of the water. We watched them from the pier Saturday evening, being entertained by the pelicans, a few frigate birds, and those white birds (not albatros, smaller birds) grabbing up fish.

Fishermen are having a field day! Playa Principal is full of dozens of fishermen, mostly with cast nets, trying to be in the right spot at the right time when the larger fish chase the schools of sardines close to shore. Then they all run towards the same spot just in time for the commotion to stop. Only to see another school appear in another spot. And they run towards that commotion, and the show goes on and on.

We so agree with you that "They are here!" We really welcome our visitors, but it can be a bit tough when the international season starts and all of a sudden we are inundated with very familiar faces. All friendly, we smile and say the right things, then, when everyone is gone, or we are back home and say to each other, "Who the F was that?" Usually we can remember some details, where they came from, how long they have been visiting, what they like, but NAMES??? Nope.

Please don't be offended! We are glad to share our paradise with you!!
