Apparently Zihuatanejo's municipal authorities saw nothing wrong with giving someone a permit to have a major fireworks display at Playa Las Gatas at 2AM on Monday morning. And of course the people who sought the permit for their celebration thought nothing of waking up the hard-working people of Zihuatanejo at that hour. Both deserve equal scorn for their disdain, disrespect and disregard of others. My wife and I were not amused. Of course, what passes for our local media made no mention of it, but no surprise there.

El Cerro Viejo was wearing a sombrero this morning from fog or low clouds. But then the skies cleared and a balmy tropical breeze dominated the region for much of this Monday. Rain clouds were visible in the distance, but they never got close. Our hillsides have lost much of their green color, and soon they'll be dry and mostly brown. The couple of brief rains this month haven't brought any of the greenery back in our coastal region, but in the sierra the rains have been more abundant, so some forested areas remain more verdant.

Not many sailboats or cruisers in the bay this year. This has to be the fewest we've had since the pandemia, possibly even fewer than then. And at least one sailboat in front of Playa Principal hasn't moved since it anchored months ago, even though it appears people are living aboard it. Can't they see the people swimming at our beaches that their waste can make terribly ill? Don't they care? A shame we have such a dysfunctional Capitanía de Puerto and that our municipal authorities continue to show zero interest in our boaters after all these years, except to exploit them for political theater when it suits them.

A slow day in Zihuatanejo tourism-wise.
