Some weird woman apparently not from here decided that 7AM was a good time to sing quite loudly with a speaker outside our window this Sunday morning. Before I could react with my typical bucket of water routine, Lupita was outside speaking calmly with her and directing her towards the museum. We saw her a short while afterwards apparently doing some web show with her cellphone and a couple of assistants on the mock red carpet Carnaval display in front of the museum. I shudder to think what image she is projecting of our town and whom, if anyone, she might be attracting. Why would anyone (besides our municipal government) think that being loud at 7AM on Sunday morning is acceptable behavior? And it ain't even Semana Santa yet.
Although it seemed like there were a lot of people at the beaches today, merchants weren't very busy. Many of the visitors here appear to be from the chartered buses. Some spend the night here in local hotels while others are just day trippers. We ran into a crowd of them this morning standing by the bridge in their cold-weather clothing at Plaza Kioto unsure of where to go, so we gave them directions. How disappointing that "travel agents" would send them here without anyone to receive them and lead them to their hotel or the pier, whatever their destination is.
The bay was like glass today. There were no clouds to be seen, and there was a nice light breeze during much of the day. Perfect for keeping cool at the beach. The water temperature remains around 27°C which is just about right, just cool enough to refresh without being cold for locals. Surf is small, but still possible at several oceanfront beaches along the coast, but it's expected to be too calm later in the week, which is probably good for the early arrivals for Semana Santa vacations. Too often our ocean sucks while they're here. Either the water is too rough, too cold, or there's a red tide. And of course, once in recent history we even had a large earthquake, and another we were affected by tsunami currents from a faraway quake. But so far, it's looking like the ocean and the weather will be absolutely perfect for Semana Santa vacationers.
Imagine waking up here in the mornings at one of the bungalows at Casa Ki on the beach in Troncones, a peaceful remote tropical village on the warm and friendly southern coast of Mexico: a place where natural beauty still rules and time seems to slow down and stretch out at the same time. A place where stress simply doesn't factor into one's daily routine.
