Our local weather almost seems too good to be true, except that it's been like this for months, and it more or less repeats itself every year. So easy to take it for granted. But we shouldn't.

The coolness of the morning means many of us do our exercises and chores as early as possible. Once the sun's up, it warms things up quickly. No clouds were visible in any direction this Tuesday morning, and the bay was once again as smooth as glass with barely a ripple at the water's edge on Zihuatanejo's downtown beach. Saw a few fish jump, but no whales. The breeze picked up with the warmth of the day. Around noon there were beautiful thunderheads visible in the sierra to our east. Such a tease. Like too many of my dates when I was still a young turk prowling the bars.

This is the first year I ever recall having a flock of chachalacas downtown for any length of time. They've been hanging around for a couple of months now, and downtown residents are all saying the same thing: this is unusual. But we love having them around and to hear them squawking and cackling. I even heard a burro one morning a couple of weeks ago. A sound that used to be so commonplace all around the bay every day.

The Cruz Roja de Zihuatanejo is taking up their annual collection. If you see them on the streets or at intersections, please be generous. They work and train so hard to always try to be there for us when we need them the most, and we should all be thankful for them. Telmex seems to be suffering an internet outage this evening in Zihuatanejo. They expect it to be fixed around 3:30 in the morning. Bummer.
