¿Listos para las Vacaciones?
This Wednesday was a repeat of the day before as far as the weather goes, though a few clouds sprouted up this evening making for more picturesque skies.
Enjoy the last of the peaceful mornings for a while. Flights and buses will start arriving this Thursday evening full of visitors here for their vacations. Bars will soon be thumping until daylight, and then some.
I must admit to being quite disappointed that the municipal government is leaving up the already extremely deteriorated Carnaval decorations for the Semana Santa vacation period. A period that always sees quite a bit of wear and tear along with vandalism and unintentional destruction of local flora, fauna and properties both public and private. It gets worse every year with the ever-growing crowds of alcoholized and careless visitors. Something that is basically the same in every tourist destination I've ever lived in. I expect to find some of the decorations in the canal and others in the ocean. What most breaks my heart is the damage visitors and drunks do to our local flora and fauna. A neighbor has been growing and tending to some young trees he planted along the Ciclovía along the canal "La Boquita", but it seems with every weekend there's something more damaged, and last weekend someone decided to break one of the beautiful young trees. I've gotten used to seeing broken branches, cut palms, and leaves stripped from trees along our streets and walkways by both poorly educated kids and careless drunks, but intentionally breaking trees should be a punishable crime.
The surf is going to be very poor for surfers for the next several days. It should start to improve by next Tuesday or Wednesday. The water temperature has cooled back down to about 26.5°C. Brrrr! Even the fishermen who go out at night are complaining about the cold water. It's not doing their fishing much good either. While last night we saw quite a few medium-sized tuna being carted away from the beach, this evening we only saw a couple of relatively small ones for sale.
Let's hope the ocean stays nice for our Semana Santa vacationers.
A purrfectly peaceful vacation lodging, Casa Kitty features 2 two-story structures. One is a one-bedroom house with a kitchen, and the other has a ground-floor bungalow and an upstairs cabaña that shares a kitchen with the bungalow. All located amid exuberant tropical gardens across the street from Troncones Beach within easy walking distance of the small village with its stores and restaurants. (click to enlarge photo)
