This Tuesday morning's coolness was certainly appreciated while it lasted. We can still enjoy sleeping under a sheet with the windows open and a ceiling fan on medium. The ocean has warmed up a bit along the coast, though it still feels refreshing at around 28.4°C. But a captain friend says it's still a bit cooler just offshore where they're still catching tuna. Had a delicious fresh tuna steak just the other day.

There's a bit of smoke in the air along our part of the coast, but nothing that should affect people with respiratory ailments. It's still pretty mild. Mostly only noticeable at dawn and dusk during the golden hour. A slight haze.

But this morning we pretended it was Sunday and enjoyed bolillos rellenos and tamales dulces con crema for breakfast with our fresh coffee. What utter ecstasy! B-)

Saw more groups of charter bus visitors arriving this morning. The downtown beach filled up slowly but surely. Mostly later in the day. Only a few couples and families of middle-to-upper-class visitors were apparent in the evening crowd along the waterfront. The waterfront restaurants at least had some tables, though one was full of políticos with their bodyguards standing around on the paseo looking uncomfortably out of place. Ixtapa's restaurant and shop owners are complaining about the lack of sales. The mayor assures them that tearing up the plazas and gazebos and putting her husband's paving stones, ugly curved lamps and some cheesey palm trees will solve the problem. I say baloney.

The waves were mostly calm today. Easy for swimmers to enjoy bobbing around in the surf. Speaking of surf, surfers are still enjoying their rides at the favorite local spots with waves around a meter high.

A laid-back luxury inn located on the beach at Playa Manzanillo with 10 individual air-conditioned tropical bungalow suites in a serene tropical setting around a pool and excellent restaurant serving some of the most incredible dishes in the region. A perfect location for surfers and those who like to watch them.

Paper today said, " Zihuatanejo's Director of Fisheries, César Pineda , ruled out that it was a red tide . He explained that the phenomenon is related to the presence of schools of fish in the bay, which tend to approach during this season as part of their reproductive cycles. He noted that the concentration of fish, possibly sardines, generates the visual effect of brown patches or "spots" that, from a distance, can be confused with another type of phenomenon."

Too bad he wasn't out in the bay. Most red (should be called chocolate) tide area we have ever seen here. Except for a very short stretch from The Thompson to Paty's, and just at the shoreline, the entire bay is the color of chocolate milk.

Although it's perfectly safe to swim in, we opted to pool swim today. The paddle, however was wonderful!

Ugh, sounds like Red tide.

Nothing yet off of Ixtapa, plus was fishing a few days ago and we put on plenty of miles and saw nothing. But will keep my eye on it hereB-)
