ZIHguen Las Mañanas Frescas
We thankfully enjoyed another nice cool night perfect for sleeping with the windows open and the fan on low. Just how we like it! Gotta appreciate nights like this while they last. Any day now a southerly breeze will change everything, the equatorial convergence zone will start moving in our direction. No tropical waves yet, but there sure is plenty of precipitation predicted in the region in the coming week. And it's been quite rainy in the Caribbean with all that precipitation blowing our way. The rains just might begin early for us this year.
The municipal government cleaned hundreds of dead fish out of La Boquita canal yesterday. They apparently died from lack of oxygen as the stagnant brackish water heated up under 36°C temperatures the other day. But they continue ignoring the sewage that bubble up from the bottom of the canal about 150 meters from the entrance apparently by a long-broken drainage pipe that runs under the canal. The canal itself is bad shape, but the current municipal government continues ignoring it while making plans to whimsically transform the entrance to the pier into a hot cement griddle with millions of pesos of new cement from the company of the mayor's husband. Zihuatanejo continues to be drowned under cement by our cement factory government. When crocodiles lived in the canal, it's environment always seemed relatively healthier than now except during previous episodes of increased pollution from sources that have supposedly been blocked.
From the 17th to the 24th of April the 4th Annual Feria de Libros will be happening, mostly along the waterfront including the Cancha Municipal and Plaza del Artista. I've posted the details of the events and dates to my Facebook page if you're interested.
The mar de fondo effect is currently rather mild with swells around 4 ft, about 1.2 m. By this Friday they should pick up to around 5.5 ft or 1.68 m. Surfing is expected to be pretty good each morning until at least Saturday. The water remains slightly on the cool side for locals, but warm for everyone else, at around 27.6°C, but it's expected to warm up soon as is the rest of the coast.
