It didn't quite get as cool overnight as the forecast predicted, but this Thursday morning was still coolish and pleasant for a morning walk, exercising and doing chores.

The day was extremely pleasant with mild temperatures and bright blue skies. Children everywhere were enjoying their day. For us Día de los Niños is a bittersweet day since we lost our Raulito 5 years ago, but we remember him with all our love, and we enjoy seeing other children enjoying themselves as he would be doing.

We enjoyed our pozole today delivered to our home from La Jaiba restaurant. One of the perks of downtown living. I give thanks every single day for our delicious Mexican fare. Although I was raised in the South and the Caribbean, both places with delicious fare, and though I was an assistant cook in a South Carolina BBQ joint, a French restaurant and a Florida seafood restaurant where I used to prepare some pretty delicious dishes, nothing jiggles my Jell-O like Mexican food. B-)

Children were having fun all up and down the downtown waterfront this evening with their new toys for Día del Niño. While it's an international celebration, I don't even recall it being celebrated in the States when I lived there. Mexico places an importance on families and children that distinguishes Mexican culture from others. It's one of our cultural traits that stands out.

Remember, this Friday starting at 9AM there will be a parade downtown from Cinco de Mayo to Juan N. Álvarez to Benito Juárez and up to the intersection with Avenida Morelos. All the local unions will be present, and their workers enjoy strong support among the local population. Lots of our friends and neighbors will be marching, so we'll be cheering them on. Café Caracol next to Plaza del Artista will be a terrific place to watch from.

Children's Day is recognized in the USA the second Sunday of June and clearly not celebrated as in Mexico. It was nice to see the various celebrations yesterday. The City opened a new Parque de Ninos yesterday adjacent to the Church. I believe it is named Parque Angeles. The Parque was packed yesterday.

As someone who spent their childhood in the USA, again, I can affirm it is a totally unnoticed day that we never celebrated when I was growing up. Never knew it existed.

Ah yes, more cement and less trees using children as an excuse. When I was a child, we liked to play on natural ground with dirt and grass in places called PARKS where there were trees and streams and grassy fields. Cement was for the buildings and the streets, not playgrounds. Not sure why parents today think children like to play in playgrounds made of plastic and cement. Totally unnatural.

Interestingly, one of the plastic play structures has hard packed dirt under it, the others are all cement. VERY hard to land on.

I had the pleasure of working with los muchachos in 1991 prior to their breakthrough album.

Fortunate to be in contact every so often and met with Fehr at the old Capella some 8 or 10 years ago.

Where will the children play?

Every day is Children's Day. Or at least, it should be.
