I remember when you came to Z. The people were very Costena and some still wore traditional Nauatl dress. People were so mellow and friendly even though things were not perfect. The Nordia has disappeared, La Ropa's biggest hotel of three stories was the Sotavento. The best bungalows were at the Calpulli (which doesn't exist anymore) and the road behind La Ropa was just a path. My husband and Hector Aguilar hired four peones to make it passable for cars.
Owen Lee's compound at the end of Las Gatas, Playa Manzanillo and Playa Contramar were the places to "get away from it all". The airport was a cleared cornfield with a little building that had the only piano in town. We who lived at La Ropa loaded burros with our bags to take our flights on a six-seater for D.F. to connect to whatever destinations. And the best part was that there was only one gasoline pump in front of the Verbonen's property at Playa Principal. City Hall was in front. It was sooooo peaceful. Now we are like San Miguel de Allende.....grown up and going through the obvious changes. Can't change it now.
