Surely these past 2 PRD administrations will go down in Zihuatanejo's history as not only the worst ever but also as the ones responsible for bringing about the end to Zihuatanejo's success by fouling its bay and selling off its green hills: TWO OF OUR MAIN ATTRACTIONS.

Yet, the fools in charge of our tourism industry are still spewing forth stupid excuses such as that the nationwide diffusion of "unfavorable weather reports" at the beginning of July is responsible for this year's decline in tourists. NOT the pollution of the bay. NOT the rape of the hillsides. NOT the high lodging rates. NOT the lawlessness. NOT the stupidity and greed of its "responsible authorities".

In Carol's photos you can see Cerro del Vigía's development clustered around just the top center of the hill, while the other roads are part of something else much larger and more ominous-looking that wraps around the entire peninsula, endangering some fragile marine coastline, such as the seahorse habitat and one of the region's best diving spots. I find it difficult to believe that proper environmental impact studies were conducted or reviewed and approved by SEMARNAT that would allow such construction so soon after that coastal area was recently described by experts as one of the most biologically rich and unique in all of the Pacific Coastline not just of Mexico but also the Americas.

And one of the políticos responsible for this catastrophe is campaigning for his second term (not consecutive) as mayor. His main support comes from the squatters he promised NOT to remove from our hillsides but also includes some well-known local so-called "ecologists". Hard to believe but true!
