Back in the early 1950's the trip was lots of fun and never a dull moment. There were two bus lines. The Red Arrow and the Gold Star. ( Gold Star was supposed to be the deluxe line ) I was usually the only American on the bus. Many great people on the bus, and chickens, and baskets of corn and grains, and Kids. Many families carried their lunches - and shared.
I learned early to be prepared to take my shoes and socks off, as we had to get out of the bus, to lighten it. Then we waded across the small rivers. Chickens and all.
I talked to a couple of retired ( I thought they were retired ) lady teachers who had taken the trip in a VW mini-van. They told me that if they did not find someone to drive the van back to Acapulco, they were going to leave it in Zihuatanejo....and take the bus back to Acapulco. I never found out what happened. I hope they found a driver.
Those days were the "Good ol' days" in Zihuatanejo. And what fun they were.
