That sounds like Barra de Potosi now! A number of years ago the mothers of the village ran a billiards hall out of town when the place decided to bring 'saloon girls' into the business.

A few years ago another billiards halls opened up. It was fascinating to observe how the women deliberated on whether on not they should be run out of town - just on the basis of general vice engendering since the owner wisely didn't bring saloon girls. The issue was passed around on the invisible web of communication of the ancient women's network. It went back and forth for a while because there wasn't immediate consensus.

Finally it was decided that it was best to allow it - since it seemed better to have the men 'in sight' in the village rather than running off to Los Achotes or Petatlan to access their particular corruptions. Appeared a wise choice in consideration of the fact there would most certainly be 'saloon girls' in the Los Achotes and Petatlan locat1ons.

However, the billiards hall proved to be a den of iniquity anyway even without the women of questionable values. Soon there were regular drunken fights and those sorts of things and the mothers changed the decision and so it disappeared.

At present there are no billiards halls or cantinas in La Barra. When the men want to drink (note that to say 'drink' in Mexico means to get obliterated) they have to sit on the street in plain sight of their women - something they do only on special occasions.

'machismo' isn't always as it might appear,
