What a different trip this year …..
We flew from Milwaukee to Houston to Morelia, it was an all day event to get there, with a 5 hour layover in Houston, but well worth it. The airport in Morelia had a lay out much the same as Zihua. Quick trip thru immigration and customs and right to the cab stand. The cab ride into Morelia was about 30 minutes. We stayed at the Hotel Casino, across from the Cathedral. It turned out to be the perfect spot. We could walk to most of the sites, there were many restaurants within a block or 2 and the sidewalk tables were perfect for watching the night activities. We were lucky to have the wonderful services of a guide for our time there, Miguel Rubio. We toured Morelia, Patzcuaro, Isla Janitzio, Urupan and the monarch preserve at Sierra Chincua over 3 days. Early morning Monday we caught the Parhikuni bus to Zihua.

We had set up a rental at the La Ceiba suites months before our arrival, and were excited to get there. When we arrived, we could tell something was not right, they did not seem to know we were coming. After some discussion, and great help from one of the unit owners, we were told sorry, there has been a mistake, and we do not have your unit available. They had a 2 bedroom, at a higher price, but only for part of our trip. We declined and off we went to find a place to call home for 10 nights.

Our 2nd stop worked out well, Solimar Suites had a large suite available for the entire time, it was just what we wanted. A small kitchen, living room area, a balcony, pool and even wireless ! It was extremely clean, and Edison, his family and staff were wonderful. We will not look for anywhere new to stay. Solimar and Edison have gained guests for life.

Back at La Ceiba it was a bit difficult to get our deposit back, we had to go back a 2nd time, but Raul did refund ( in a check ) after we showed all the documentation of our booking. Finally settled in the rest of our time there went off without a hitch.

Met up with old Zihua friends and made new friends too. We had great fishing with Ale Vargas on the Esturion. Lots of beach time- split our time between La Perla on La Ropa and La Mesa de Pescador on Las Gatas. Lots of good meals as always- the ones that stick out are: Chendo’s, Marina Café, La Casa Café, Bandidos, Zihua Pancake House, Los Braseros and Ricomar. Have to say thanks to Carol for recommending Barracudas II- was one of the best meals we have had !

Our favorite spot in town is still Casa Arcadia, pescadillas, quesadillas and a bucket of cold Sol- 3 pm every day. Can life get any better ?

Back in the winter wonderland he!! that never seems to end we are already counting down the days to our next trip 340, 339, 338..
