I think this is really serious. Are the bus sindicatos doing anything to increase security? Was this on a combi? Did they rob the driver? I could not find anything in the local news sites. Any know anything besides what's been posted here?
Not near as serious as the daily shootouts that are also mostly unreported. But hey, how 'bout that Carnaval parade!
Our local politicians are simply following the Acapulco model. Look at Acapulco now and you're essentially seeing how Zihuatanejo will be in a few more years unless we see a radical change in our local and state governments.
Expect no further info, no action, no complaints filed. The criminals are likely from the Mexico City area where this is more common. They might've even been on vacation or just passing through.
We have no reliable local police force, and apparently there's no intention by the municipal government to professionalize them or use them in any different capacity than they're currently being used, mostly to protect local politicians and essentially serve as adornments. If the passengers and the driver didn't report it to the Ministerio Público, and it is doubtful that any did, then there isn't even a paper trail to point to in order to indicate that a crime happened. It's an old story here. One more reason it never ceases to surprise me that so many people from the States move here and then act surprised when things like this happen.
