Troncones is a small Mexican village with several interconnected, perfect beaches. The beach-front has been developed to a large degree with a variety of hotels, B&Bs & expensive private homes owned largely by foreigners. There are a wide variety of places to eat & drink from a sports bar to high end dining. Activities such as yoga, meditation & surfing are available. You can hike to other nearby villages. The water can be dangerous at both locat1ons but the locals know the best places to swim safely.
Barra is a lovely relatively unspoiled quiet Mexican village at one end of a very long beach with fewer options for other activities. The dining options are very limited in the evenings after the numerous beach restaurants serving the same basic fare have closed at around 6pm. At weekends & holidays people are bussed into these restaurants from far & wide, so it can be busy.
Robs site can give you all the best hotel options.
If you want a beach vacation with dining & a variety of options my vote would have to be Troncones. If you want a more authentic Mexican vacation with fewer additional diversions Barra is an excellent choice.
